Meet the person

I currently serve as the Chief of Operations at Wakefield EMS, a role I have held after progressing through various positions since joining the organization in 2009. Throughout my tenure, I have gained valuable experience, starting as an EMT and advancing to the role of EMS Chief. Outside of my professional responsibilities, I enjoy traveling with my wife and son, attending sporting events—particularly baseball, as well as the occasional race and football game. Additionally, I work part-time as a nurse in our local emergency room.

The position

The Chief of an EMS agency serves as the highest-ranking executive responsible for the overall leadership, vision, and strategic direction of the organization. This role encompasses oversight of all operational, administrative, and clinical functions, ensuring regulatory compliance, fiscal responsibility, and mission alignment. The Chief acts as the primary liaison with municipal officials, regulatory bodies, and the public, advocating for system improvements, resource allocation, and the advancement of prehospital care standards. Through decisive leadership, the Chief cultivates a culture of excellence, safety, and continuous improvement within the agency.

Supporting the Chief, the Deputy Chief plays a critical leadership role by managing day-to-day operations, supervising command staff, and ensuring seamless execution of departmental objectives. The Deputy Chief is often tasked with overseeing logistics, personnel management, and quality assurance processes, bridging the gap between strategic goals and operational realities. This role requires a deep understanding of EMS systems, strong leadership skills, and the ability to manage complex incidents and organizational challenges effectively. The Deputy Chief also frequently represents the agency in the Chief’s absence, ensuring continuity of leadership and decision-making.

Together, the Chief and Deputy Chief form the executive core of the EMS agency, working in close collaboration to guide the service in delivering high-quality, patient-centered emergency care. Their complementary roles ensure stability, foster innovation, and promote workforce engagement across all levels of the organization. Whether leading system-wide initiatives, navigating critical incidents, or mentoring future leaders, the Chief and Deputy Chief are instrumental in shaping the agency’s impact on the community it serves.
