Meet the person
August Prince serves as the ALS Assistant Coordinator (Lieutenant) at Wakefield EMS, bringing over a decade of dedicated service across multiple disciplines. He began his career in the U.S. Army, where he served honorably for six years as a Cavalry Scout and Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) Tier 3 combat medic. During his military tenure, August led small teams and squad-sized elements in operations across various global regions, supporting U.S. interests in dynamic and high-risk environments.
Following his honorable discharge, August transitioned into the civilian first responder field, continuing his commitment to public service. He earned his Firefighter I and Emergency Medical Technician certifications at the Shumaker Public Safety Center and served as a Firefighter/EMT in Dauphin County. He later relocated to Lancaster to attend the Paramedic Program at St. Joseph’s University, Lancaster Campus.
August is a Nationally Registered Paramedic with additional certifications in technical vehicle rescue, water rescue, wildland rescue, and advanced austere medicine. His passion for emergency medicine is especially focused on technical rescue and providing care in high-threat and unconventional environments, including wilderness settings.
Beyond his local service, August has volunteered internationally, offering advanced prehospital care in austere conditions and active combat zones. His unwavering dedication to delivering care in the most demanding circumstances continues to define his career and contributions to emergency medicine.
Meet the position
The Lieutenant assigned to the ALS Division at Wakefield EMS serves as a frontline supervisor responsible for supporting the operational and clinical functions of the agency’s advanced life support services. Working under the direction of the ALS Coordinator, the Lieutenant assists with ensuring ALS unit readiness, monitoring equipment and medication inventories, and verifying that ALS providers are operating in accordance with agency protocols and regional standards. The Lieutenant may assist with coordinating shift coverage, supporting advanced-level field operations, and responding to incidents to provide on-scene leadership and clinical oversight when necessary.
In addition to daily operational support, the Lieutenant plays a key role in communication between field staff and the ALS Coordinator, helping identify trends, concerns, or training needs among ALS personnel. The position may also involve participation in quality assurance initiatives, facilitation of in-service education, and support of new ALS provider orientation. This role is well-suited for a proactive and organized leader with strong clinical acumen, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to advancing ALS service delivery within a dynamic EMS environment.
