Since 1973, the Wakefield Ambulance Association (WAA) has provided superior emergency medical care to southern Lancaster County. WAA began as a small group of concerned citizens answering a few calls each month, but has grown into a progressive EMS agency now responding to over 630 dispatches annually. To celebrate 45 years of service to the community, the company will be hosting an Open House event on Saturday June 9th from 10:00AM to 2:00 PM at their station (2272 Robert Fulton Highway, Peach Bottom). Activities are free and will include a children’s coloring contest, snacks, door prizes, hands-only CPR lessons, ambulance rides, station tours, and more! Visitors of all ages are encouraged to attend.

In addition, residents in the WAA service area will soon receive a Capital Campaign donation request in their mailbox. All proceeds raised from this special anniversary fundraiser will be placed into the company’s Ambulance Fund to provide for the purchase of a new ambulance vehicle.

“We want to emphasize to the community that this is a special campaign for our Anniversary and is not a replacement for the separate annual subscription drive, which is mailed out each November,” explained Tyler McCardell, Operations Chief. “Right now there is a statewide trend of small volunteer-based EMS agencies closing their doors. While Wakefield is not in immediate danger, each dollar we receive here will enable us to continue providing high-quality, locally-based EMS to the community for years to come.” WAA leaders are setting a goal of $45,000 for the 45th Anniversary.
